wheel adapters for cragers

I have a 1985 380 se and I wanted to put some crager mag wheels on it,most the mechanics I spoke with told me that using adapters to get them on there would mess up the steering and such.I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice with how I could go about getting the right adapters and if it will truly mess up my car,not sure on the size of the cragers but the car has five lugs and the cragers are five lug also,-thanks
