Hello all,

Since I have used this forum as input for my next MB, I would like to contribute to the forum with a few tips about the 190E 2.6.

Mine is a ´87 model manual gear. Had it since 1995.

- if you are looking to buy one, make a mechanic put the car on a lift and check the beneath of the car, + the usual mechanical ball bearing etc.

- Most important !!! Make a compression test on all 6 cylinders - they should have a equal level.

- Get the cars full service history from MB if possible

- The only faliure I have experienced with my car, was when the charging-relay had to be changed ( positioned close to the battery under a plastic cover ). Symptoms:
Its like something is draining the power, and the idle is running very low and the engine will stop if you dont keep it running at high idle, some lamps is lightning up on the board - after a cupple of minutes the problem suddenly dissaperas. In rainy wether it can be difficult to start the car, or it will simply stop running on the highway. A quick fix is to massage the charging-relay int its socket for a better connection - if you are lucky its not even the relay it self, but lack of contact in the socket. Only experienced MB service mechanics knows about this problem, so take care not to have a service shop experimenting on the entire engine system to find the cause of this faliure ( as they did on mine, they canged the dynamo, the battery, all sparks and the rotor system on front of the engine ).

I spoke with other 2.6 owners - they had also experienced this problem.

- Change oil and filters each 8 - 10.000km

My 87 190 TD was jsut totaled from a rear end collision but almost everything on it is still fine. You name it, I probaly have it... Just ask and its your for short money.
