Need help identifing my 79 Roadster
Recently purchased a 1979 Mercedes Roadster. The title reads 79 Mercedes Roadster, the truck lid is sporting 500 SL, the inside door pillar is labeled 280 SL. The car was purchased in Belgin in 1979 and shipped into the U.S. thru the Port of New Jersey, at which time, the "Dept of Transportation", required the self tracking head lights to be exchanged with dual sealed beam head lights. The car has a DOHC 6 with a four speed trans. I have not been able to locate any information on a DOHC 6 with 4spd in any manual under the 280 SL badging. The original wheels are 16 x 8 inch mag style front and rear. I want to restore some of the dry rotted welting and need a new shifter for the trans, however local dealer does not have this year model listed. Car was garage kept with low milage and in excellent condition. The original owner packaged the original self tracking headlights and included them when I purchased the car. Is anyone familar with this year model with this engine / trans package ? Any help would be greatly appreciated !!!!!!!!

Being that it was not original imported here and sold outside the US, the models and options are different. You would probably have some luck contacting a MB dealer with a VIN and see what info they can provide you on the car.
Sounds like a nice car - good luck!
