Default Mercedes 208D traveliner (1994). Steering has become extremely heavy in the last week

Hi there. The steering on my Mercedes 208D traveliner (1994) has become extremely heavy/tight over the last week. I've had a look at it. It doesn't look as though there is any power assistance so seems as though it should be a relatively simple setup. I've checked tyre pressure and the oil level on the steering box itself and everything seems as it should be. Could the problem be with the joints on the steering arms? Or could there be a problem inside the box? Any tips or ideas would be greatly appreciated. She's a good old girl so I want to see her back in all her glory! Thanks.
