Gas gauge problem on my 190E

Just the other day my Gas gauge, Temp gauge, and Oil gauge stopped working. However the Economy gauge located in the same cluster is still working. The Speedometer and RPM gauge on the other clusters still work. Can I get some help.

RE: Gas gauge problem on my 190E

The only time the fuel guage failed to work on my '93 190E 2.3 was when the brake light fuse blew. I noticed it while I was driving so I stopped at a parking lot and looked things over. I could see that the 3rd brake light wasn't working, so I had my wife check the other brake lights and they were also not working. Sure enough, I pulled the cover off of the fuse panel and the brake light fuse was blown. Fortunately, there was a spare fuse in the holder...replaced it and no problems since.

I have a 1990 2.6 and the brake lights work. There are no blown fuses. The oil gauge and temp gauge also are not working. Thanks anyway.

Glad it worked out for you g1golo. Sometimes the fuses don't seat very well and the result is an open/loose circuit. The next time I remove my battery, I'm going to remove every fuse, clean the contacts and re-install.

thanks guys, this has been a problem for me for about a year, it was as mentioned the brake fuse. I did not know that the brake lights weren't working. It was fuse number 9. Hurray it works!!!

Thanks!

I created an account on this forum just to thank you guys for the tips. My '93 190E had no working brake lights/gas gauge when i woke up this morning. I reset fuse 9 into place and all is functioning again.

More than 10 years later and this post is still extremely helpful!

My daughter's gas/oil/temp gauge was out. I had visually checked all the fuses, and none looked blown. I was about to schedule at the garage when I saw this post. Didn't realize she had driven with no brake lights either. Sure enough, the fuse was blown, but the tension from the clip was holding the filament together. Thanks so much, you just saved me an expensive trip to the mechanic, and very likely an accident.
