Default fuel pump relay?

Hello all,

Could someone pls tell me what this object is? I drive a 1989 190e, 2.6L. Someone told me its called a fuel pump relay and another told me its a fuel relay. At the moment, mine does not work and i have to use a short wire as a bridge to get the fuel pumps working (with a hissing sound) before my car can start.

Once it starts with the wire, black smoke starts coming out of the exhaust and it consumes way too much fuel.

What is the object in the image called, what does it do in the car and roughly how much does it cost to get a replacement? I have been told it has to be for a 2.6L six cylinder engine.

any answers?

Default RE: fuel pump relay?

That's a fuel pump relay. without it your fuel pump won't work! Which also means your vehicle won't start, because the fuel pump won't be in operation. That's what that means. And a new one will probably cost about $105.00, maybe less or more some places. But if the fuel pump is working, then chances are it's not the relay. It's something else. Be more descriptive. Place your post in the appropriate forum so you can get better response to your situation.
