1986 420 SEL performance sound
 

Hi everyone,
I'm 17 years old, and my dad recently gave me his old Mercedes. I'm sure a lot of you remember when you got your first car around my age how you wanted it to sound (loud) and perform (fast). Ive been looking into ways to increase its performance, but because the car is not very popular at this point in time it is somewhat difficult. If anyone has any insight into what i could do to the exhaust system to make it run better and sound better I would appreciate it.

also if anyone has any suggestions to further its performance please let me know,

i am 16 allmost 17 and like you my dad just gave me a 87 420sel black 92,000 miles, and ill tell you what im doing to it. you dont whant it to be a "spick" mobile. i want a little bit louder sound but not ridiculously loud but more "Beast" sound. im gona eliminate the guts on the muffler by cutting the top off and taking out the "guts" or the baffling inside so the sound flows throu. i wouldn't recommend "gutting" the cat or Catalytic converter becouse you wont pass emissions. the "cat" burns excess gas that isent burned in the engine to put it in shirt terms. the stock radio is a very high end radio even kno its 20 years old so i woundent change that. proformance wise the car has plently of go. not much you can do that wont cost alot of money. im allso repainting the car OEM MB black the color that came with the car and is on the car now its just oxydized.
