Default 190e cossy probs.what a good read!!!!

right here goes.have just purchased my 1st merc and at 21 with classic insurance im wow chuffed.its a cossy 190e 2.3 16v. the person i purchased it off had got it resprayed in oyster gold and had the engine rebuilt(loads of reciepts).the problems i have found is the heater doesnt seem to work so i have got a new fan....how easy is it to fit or would it be a dash out? also i have noticed it is really tappety, how much would i be looking for a tune up if thats what i need?are the tappets hydrolic on my car or not? also ..... it has only happened once(have only had it a few days) but when i started driving(0-60mph) the engine would sound like a steam train chu chu down the road.at idle it wasnt heard so could find where it was coming from in the engine...?any ideas? sorry for such a long tread im new and dont want to ruin my mercedes. 1 more thing....im finding it hard to engage 1st/2nd gear.i know im new to the dogbox but you really have to give it some to get it in gear.the last owner said all 3 gear linkages had been changed so cant be the rubbers but he mentioned something about them needing adjusting...is this a hard job?
sorry once again for the long thread and thankyou for reading.any help with the above problems would be much apprieciated.

For the blower fan, you dont need to remove the dash at all. You actually do all the work under the hood. You have to remove the windshield wiper assembly. Then you will see the blower fan cover, which you have to remove. Its held in by clips. The blower fan is also held in by clip and you disconnect the wires. Then reinstall.

The cosworth was designed to be a high revving engine, and they are quite noisy
