Thinking about building a home?
Due to Katrinia, lumber prices are rising and will continue to do so during the reconstruction in the south. I live in the Northwest where most of our lumber is local or from Canada. Retail lumber is up 30% already and not one stick has been replaced in Missisippi! Concrete has been rising for about a year... nearly 70%, mostly high demand in China.
I notice that other than high fuel prices, the national news ignores inflation. It looks like Alan Greenspan may need to drop short term interests rates again or our economy will stall. As a Home Depot contractor, I've seen a steady push lately to drop inventory through promotions. Build now, or forever regret it! We live in interesting times.

How many does it take to change a light bulb?
... and I suppose you know over 50% of the current voters in this country? Are you realizing yet how stupid you are?
You need to air out the 40-footer. The sewage fumes are making you dumber than the average Polack.

Yeah, sorry about hijacking the thread.
It's going to get somewhat worse all over. The current number for reconstruction of the Gulf area is $200B. I suppose that will rise to $300B-$400B before it's over. Bush promises no new taxes to pay for it. He says he wants to help the poor folks down there. He hasn't told them yet that to do it, he's going to have to drastically cut their entitlement programs.
I wish they wouldn't rebuild anything below sea level. I consider that a serious waste of my tax monies. It will all get washed away again within the next twenty years or so. Paying for it once is asking enough. Why won't they build whatever is needed, but do it above sea level? I don't get it. There's enough of New Orleans and its history still left that is relatively dry. We shouldn't be rebuilding low-income housing projects below sea level. I'm not saying don't build them, just not below sea level.
