Hi - Can anyone please advise me. My car is a S430, 1999 model. This week,when inserting my electronic key,it just didn't want to turn toignite, as if it just 'shut down'.I checked the power and nothing would come on eg; interior lighting. It also locked the boot when I tried to check out the battery. After approx' 10mins, it started but has been like this all week. Please help as it is the weekend and I need to get to work Monday and won't be able to get an 'expensive' dealer to look at it.

Welcome to the forum.
We all have Mercedes cars, and try to help each other out.
Try cleaning the red lens on the end of your key, and also the socket in the dash. A small brush works great too.Sometimes it simply gets dirty, and the signal doesn't transmit. If that doesn't work let us know.

Hey everyone

I also have the same problem, i have a 2000 S430 and at the moment it just wont start. I've tried cleaning it out, but still no response, Could it be a flat battery? Please help me out!!

the key will work even with flat battery because it uses transponder also.

the EIS is faulty.

sounds more like EIS switch,have you got a spare try that before takin it to mb
