Gear shifter troubles
Hi There
My name is Nico and new on the block. I'm from South Africa. Previously I owned a 2001 C270 Cdi - drove it for 5 years hassle free - wonderful car!! In May of this year I upgraded to a 2009 220Cdi. At first not so impressed, mainly because of acceleration - turbo lag is frustrating!! But, its getting better - getting used to the car. This afternoon I stopped at road works, switched of the engine and wait for traffic to clear. When I started the engine to drive further the shifter was locked in "P" position and completely stuck!
I had to phone the local MBD for road assistance. Eventually I managed to "unlock" the shifter by pulling backwards the "release"?? Everytime I stop and switch off engine I first must unlock the shifter before I can shift to "D". Is this a common problem on the C-class? What is the root cause of this problem?? Should I get rid of the car?? I'm disappointed and concerned about the issue, especially on the long term
