First Time MB owner '90 300E 4-M

Hi, I am a first time MB owner. I purchased the '90 gray-blue 300 E 4-Matic the day before Thanksgiving, 2005 with 160,000 miles for a bit more than lunch money. So far, I've put a new wheel bearing on the driver-front, a window lift switch, and ignition wires/plugs. In my mind, as long as the maintenance is less than than monthly payments, I am ahead of the game.

Did I mention the car has every option that was available, the paint is in excellent shape and the leather interior is also fantastic? I've been reading some of the postings on fan blower motors and stretching transmission cables. I may tackle the blower motor myself, but leave the tranny work to the Professionals. I will point out that this model and engine combination is outstanding with a truly superb ride. I did move up to performance tires, but am keeping with the OEM supension. I've got an 8 hour drive coming up and am really looking forward to it.

I do have to add this: I'm a long-married man that hasn't dated in a long time. Stange, attractive women smile at me when I out driving or getting into this car. What an ego booster!

This and several other forums describe this model run as one of the best ever. Longevity will be determined, but right now, I love the ride. My last car was an '84 Volvo 240 Turbo. When the carcas rusted out, there were 200,000 miles on the odometer. I'd've keep that car but for the rust. I think the MB will do better.

Thanks to all of you contributors for the technical issues. I really hadn't planned on working on this car myself, but the information I learn here does give me a pretty good understanding as to whether my skills are up to the job, or not. I actually had fun changing the headlight bulbs and wiring harness. Meatier projects (fan blower motor) will be next.

Mrs. Smith is currently unavailable. She said something about taking the kids, but had a satchel full of high powered handguns and explosives. I'm expecting her for dinner. :D

Thanks for the welcome to the forum.

Winston.
