Default Considering a Mercedes Rebuild Project

Hi I am Gus for Roswell GA and new to this forum. At this time I do not own a Mercedes. I am considering aquiring an older Mercedes ( W123 or W124 ) turbo diesel for a rebuild project so any advice would be appreciated. The only experience I have with a diesel is a Duetz farm tractor and a John Deere backhoe.

The 300 series was my first thought because the more metal around you the safer you tend to be. The 190s and 240s are also being considered. The only reason is the opinion that the fuel mileage is better for the smaller engines. We live in the Atlanta Metro area so most driving will be in the congested Atlanta traffic. The car will be my wife's car and she drives a car more gentle than I do. The research done to date tends to have oinions leaning toward the W124 but I am open to being better educated.

hi gus, welcome and good luck with your choice.i have 8 diesel benz and have had many others.my favorite model is the 87 300d turbo.i also like the 86 87 sdl.the early 300sd are great also..its like coke or pepsi with the old diesel models, all personal taste..the 190d 4cyl are slow as a snail.the 5cyl turbo 190 is a good one.the 123 turbo move good also.if you dont know about cars then have your choice checked by a good mechanic of yours,,not the sellers.good luc
