Just bought a 1982 300TD Wagon. White w/ Blue Interior and 125K miles.

Very nice shape. Notice a nominal leak of oil before purchasing and choked it up to a gasket on the oil pan area. This morning oil was topped of and took it for its first drive (about 60 miles). Got home tonight and noticed a drip of oil on the driveway (very small). Decided to check the dip-stick and I would guess it lost approx. 4-5 quarts in that short drive.

I am not very mechanically inclined so wanted some input before I take it to a mechanic.

Noticed that there is some evidence of oil on the side of the engine; however, the majority is on the back of the bottom pan and all over the middle of the front axel (like it is blowing back). Could it be leaking from the top of the engine, down the side, and blowing back? I just find it so odd that there is only a drip or two on the drive way...that is what makes me think it is leaking out the top of the engine, not the pan as originally thought?

Thoughts would be appreciated.

Still an incredible car. Just hope I don't have a mega-repair on my hands!
