Try this site
SLK how too.. http://www.slk32.com/pages/gotopages/howto.html
The filter is behind the glove box. I believe the instructions on on the site.

the filter is not behind the glove box on an slk it its under the glove box area. remove the under dash panel on the passenger side. you will see a rectangular looking plastic cover that is black with to white slide tabs on it. slide the tabs each away from each other this doesnt have to be done simultaniously and the tabs dont have to slide all the way off if they do just slide them back on the cover after u take it off. when u take the cover off pull the filter down. reinstall and ur done. it is different on some other vehicles. 210 E classes and 220 S classes are behind the glove box.

This is correct. I did mine last week. I used a WIX filter which was only $27. A HUGE improvement in air volume was the result (I think mine was 5 years old). A few bugs even fell out with the filter.

OK. The filter on the 99 SLK is DIRECTLY BEHIND the glove box. I didn't mean to indicate that you go through the glove box to gain access to it. But that IS where it is physically located. I also have a 99 SLK....

The site I attached -- SLK how too.. http://www.slk32.com/pages/gotopages/howto.html
under "Change the Pollen Filter" explains exactly how to change it. As indicated by rmf0102 you do gain access by removing the panel located under and behind the glove box.
