Very poor mpg 230K - 99
Hi all,
I need some advice concerning my '99 230k. It's been a great car but for the last 5-6000 miles the fuel economy has dramatically worsened. I'm getting about 220 miles out of a tank instead of 300 on the same roads and driving the same commute. My local garage is a MB Independent, and he's replaced both the MAF and the Lamda sensor but with no luck. Any ideas what I should be looking at? I've minimised the other variables by using the same fuel from the same pump and driving the same route, filling to the same level each week. A seperate fault (it may be unrelated but if you guys have any thoughts I'd be interested) is that the Oil Level light will come on for about 5 minutes during most journeys, normally some way into the journey. There's a normal amount of new oil in the car. Thanks, Steve Hampshire, UK |

Hi,
Are any codes present even if the CEL is OFF. Stuart. |
RE: Very poor mpg 230K - 99
Thanks Snancki - by the CEL are you referring to the ignition switch? Forgive my ignorance....

CEL = Check Engine Light.
The codes stored in the OBD On Board Diagnostics is the starting point. To read these you need a scanner or a trip to your dealer. Stuart |
