Default Trunk Lid won't go back to allow Top to lower 1999 SLK 230 Sport

My trunk lid tries to raise on the passenger side but seems to be stuck on the drivers side so it will not open to allow roof to be lowered. The rear windows go down, if I reverse the process the rear windows raise so I am not stuck with them open, but can not get the top down, anyone out there with a fix for this problem

I have a similar problem with my 2001 slk....right now the roof is in the open position..the trunk lid is stuck on the driver side...it lifts up a little on the passenger side. the problem started a week ago when it would stick slightly on the drivers side and then release. I took it to mercedes who tried to loosen the latch mechanism(wd40!!!) and then played around with the cables and said it was ok. I took the car home and tried it ...trunk and the roof opened fine...but when i tried to close ,the lid totally stuck on the drivers side. I hope you were able to resolve...appreciate help in this matter
