Tranmission service cost

Hi all
I found this forum after search for the answer of my 99 slk 230 problem. Now I got the it fixed. However, they suggested the tranmissions service but did not tell me the cost. My car has 120k miles on it. Does any one have this service done recently? Thank you in advance.

if we're talking about changing the transmission fluid and filter. I just had it done today on a crossfire which uses the same drivetrain as the slk320. $11.63 pan gasket, $20.31 filter, $64.00 fluid and at $80.00 a hour. the labor was $102.00. all oem mercedes parts. the slk230 should be in that ballpark. alldata says it's the same 1.2 hours labor as the slk320, plus parts. there shouldn't be much difference in the parts. I had it done about a year and half go on my slk230 but I can't find my receipt. I suggest not to go over 40k before changing transmission fluid and change the coolant while you're at it. the total bill with coolant flush was $380.90. pay a little now or a lot later.

Thank Brookings
How do I know when is the right time to change the coolant?
And when you said "not go over 40k for changing tranmission fluid " is that mean I have to change the fluid every 40k thereafter ?

you should change the transmission fluid and filter at least every 40k. people do go a lot longer, but it's rolling the dice. if you love your car as I do mine, take care of it and it will take care of you. there is a tool that you can get for checking the fluid level, but it is also good for smelling and checking the looks of the fluid down the road. it's a little expensive, that being $63.00 from autohausaz.com, part 140 589 15 21 00. fluid will start smelling a little burnt and darken when getting too old. to use tool after service, just tell who does the service not put a lock clip in the filler tube cap to seal it. you can't leave this tool in the filler tube as with other transmission dip sticks. the cooling system is probably the most neglected part of most peoples cars. the coolant/antifreeze should be changed about every 3 years or so, about the same time you need to do the transmission service again. these cars have great running gears in them and should last a very long time if you take care of them, so enjoy!
