Tilt steering

I just bought a 230 SLK, 2003. I thought that the tilt steering wheel is a standard feature. Mine does not tilt at all. The owners manual gives direction on how to adjust it but I have a solid piece of plastic around the housing. What would it take to modify it? It is very bothersome to look through the steering wheel all the time. Does anyone out there have the same fixed steering wheel?</P>

My 99 slk 230 hasn't tilt steering either. But this probably is because is a south american version or something like that.

They dont have tilt steering only in and out. AFAIK

The lever on side of seat allows you to lift seat up and down to change driving height.
Lift lever and smoothly "jerk" the seat up.
