SLK 350 (R172) Rear Fog Light change
 

I have brought my right hand drive SLK 350 R172 2012 to France. In order to register it in France, I need to change the rear fog light from the right side to the left. Is this possible through a setting or via a software change or does this have to be physically done? Any advice would be appreciated. I have changed the light settings for driving on the right hand side but it did not have an effect on the rear fog light.

Hello and welcome to the forum! From what I've read, only the driver's side has the fog light (right side in your case) - I think that this would require it be done physically. Other members may chime in with their experience.

After further investigation, I discovered that the fog light on the left was not wired to the rear light plug. Even disconnecting it on the right and extending the wire to reach the left light was not sufficient as the left light ( a sealed unit) did not have the fog light LED's. It required some extensive modifications. I had to cut open a section of the light, insert high bright LED's, run a wire from them to the light connector.
My recommendations are that anyone with the same issue run the wire from the right light to the left but purchase a complete left tail light unit for Europe (with the fog light LED's already installed)
