serpentine belt on a 98 slk 230
Ok, my girlfriends little SLK 230's serpentine belt came off this morning. It's the upper belt, the one that goes to the driver side. Does anyone have a diagram on how to replace the belt or which pully is the tensioner pully? Anything helps! Thanks

RE: serpentine belt on a 98 slk 230
Ok, well it was the tensioner and the pulley on the tensioner. But now the tensioner wont move to take it off and replace it. Does anyone have any info on how to get it to move. I wrapped the old belt around the tensioner and stood on the top of the engine and pulled as hard as I could and it didnt budge. Any one care to shed some light on this issue?

You need to use an 8mm ring spanner. Pix on this site.

Haha, that's funny, stood on top of the car pulling on the tension, like you are going to move someting with 200lbs of tension by hand. Just be thankful you have all your fingers.
First off, the belt layout is in the owners manual. Secondly, you will need either a long breaker bar (like 2' or more) or a rachet handle that's 2' long or a pipe that you can slip over your rachet handle. There's a bolt on the tensioner pulley, maybe hidden behind a plastic cover that snaps off. Slip the belt on every pulley except the tensioner. Pull on the tensioner using the breaker bar or long handled rachet, usually from left to right facing the engine and hold it or have someone hold it because if it lets go you will be in serious pain and slip the belt over the tensioner. It really is only a 5 minute job.

RE: Automatic transmission fluid dip stick
The mercedes service dipstick is generic, you can get one at your dealer. It's a long rod that fits any car, just stick it in until it hits bottom and measure how much oil is in there but you will need the specs for your motor as to how far up the dipstick is normal. I use the old fashioned way of measuring transmission fluid level, when you tranny starts slipping, it may betime to add fluid.

RE:Transmission dipstick and change
Bazzle,
I read a while back your post on changing transmission fluid and saw where you suggested to get a dipstick from ebay (I think) but now I cannot find that post. I have the part number. Could you resend me that info. Also, it said you have to drain the oil out of the diffriential. I am not sure now to do that. I know enough to be dangerous!!!
Would appreciate any help and suggestions.
