Here is my new to me 2005 SLK 350 w/ 6 speed Manual transmission in Jasper Blue.
I drove the car 5 hours back home from the dealer I bought it from and the car performed fine except for some warped brake rotors. I did get a Oil Level light on and a Check Engine light (not flashing). When the Oil light came on I immediately pulled over and checked the dipstick oil level which was fine. I drove some more and the light came on again so I checked the dipstick again.. fine. I examined the engine bay and under the car with no oil leak seen. I figure it is a bad oil level sensor which means dropping the oil pan which is fine by me since I wanted to take a look at the internals above the oil pan anyway on my high mileage car (151k miles on the clock).
As far as the brakes go it appears I have 4 piston Mercedes Brembos calipers and rotors on the front and the back is stock. I’m not sure this is not supposed to be like this and I need input to return the brakes to all stock SL&350 or just replace the front rotors with Brembos.
The top operates fine up and down. It looks like the dealer might have replaced the front lock cylinder since a used one was in the trunk.
I’ll know more about my check engine light once my scan tool arrives. I’m not too worried since it occurred immediately after filling the car with gas. Perhaps a gas cap issue or evap leak somewhere. I am going to pull the cam position sensors to take a look at the cam gears for timing condition. Is there a way to snake a spy camera down to look at the balancer shaft gear? Thanks for any help.
