MAF Sensor

I believe the MAF sensor on my '03 slk230 is going out. I have 56,000 miles--but keep throwing a po101 code. The engine will start to surge after a 10 mile run at 70 mph--goes up and down by at least 50 rpm.

Any advice or ideas?

I've cleaned the MAF twice with the new CRC MAF cleaner--still no good.

I switched out the std. MB air filter for a K&N--but no difference.

I hate to think about handing MB $485 for a part that I can install in 5 minutes.

I'd apprciate any help--thanks, Larry

RE: MAF Sensor

P0101 is specifically MAF out of range.
Looks pretty straight forward the MAF is faulty.
Cleaning does not always work dependent upon the nature of the fault. If the MAF circuit is open cleaning can't replace the broken film.
Looks like you need a new MAF.
Try eBay. Use non Bosch at your risk but some people say they are fine....I guess they will be fine (Pieburg) but if you end up with other odd problems these could be down to the non OE part.
5 mins to change DIY.
What else do you want to know? May need a special security torx socket if you just change the sensor rather thanm the whole body. MB sell it as an assemebly.....Why I know not since the chance of the body being damaged must be nil!!

RE: MAF Sensor

You can get Bosch ones from Ebay for 1/2 that price. Ensure you get the SAME part number as was prev fitted. Number is on insert.
Remove insert, torx driver or pliers, (use self tappers to replace, makes it easier for later maint.)

RE: MAF Sensor

well--I went ahead and had the dealer do the replacement--it's not a Bosch unit--it's a Siemans unit--but at least I get a 1 yr. warranty on parts & labor---thanks for the replies-Larry
