Light Bulb behind climate controls, how to get there?
 

Hi,

we seem to have a bad light bulb on our 1998 SLK 230 Compressor behind the climate controls, the entire upper section (above the radio) is dark. How do I remove the center console cover to change that bulb? Sorry, I don't have an assembly manual (yet) :(

you will need to get a couple of stereo removal keys. you'll see a small slot for them on each lower side of the unit. once removed there will be a couple screws. there may be or maybe not a couple of screws under the cupholder. mine has a place for them but aren't there so I didn't have to remove the cup holder. the bottom switches can stay attached to the simulated carbon fiber surround. be careful not to break your surround. The knobs come off hard to replace the lights under them. in your case test the lights, it's unusual that both lights would be out at the same time, but not impossible.
