HVAC Problem?
Hope you'll excuse a Crossfire owner for jumping in here, but I've a question about a problem with the HVAC system's blower housing (which I think the Crossfire and the first generation SLK share).
While running down a problem in which my HVAC system was stuck in the re-circulat position, I found that the return spring which is meant to return the air source flap to the fresh air position was no longer anchored to the blower housing. It appears that the anchor point has broken off of the blower housing.
Unfortunately, it would be necessary to remove the heater core and A/C evaporator to get to the area where the spring should be anchored and I'm not equipped to properly discharge the A/C system. For now, I've simply disconnected the vacuum valve which pulls the flap into the re-circulation position so as to keep the system in the fresh air mode.
Now for my question: I'm aware of at least one other Crossfire that has experience this failure and I'm wondering if it is prevalent with first generation SLKs also?
Anyone?
