HIGH OCTANE...IS IT REALLY IMPORTANT??

RE: HIGH OCTANE...IS IT REALLY IMPORTANT??
It's very important. Running a forced induction motor requires the higher octane. What happens without it is the knock sensors pull back timing and you loose power big time. I've seen a dyno where the person lost about 19HP with mid grade. As for are all brands the same, no. It's like asking is all water the same yet people have bottled water prefferences. Some fuels are not as pure as others, different brands use different additives that are above and beyong regulatory additives. The biggest difference to is how octane is calculated. It's an average of motor octane and research octane and some brands do better in one test vs. another but average out the same. This is why some fuels make some older cars ping and some don't. Through the years I've relied on Chevron and feel there's a difference with Mobil as a backup. I tend to stay away from Arco and Shell.I used to work for 76 Products when it was part of Unocal.
