Hard top problems
 

I a trying to solve a top actuation problem for a friend with a '97 SLK230..

The top will not move on its own - can hear noises, so I believe there is power to unit.

If I look at the pump module in trunk passenger side, there is a small round tank on the back side of the pump. There are some markings - appear to be level marks, so I assume it is a hydraulic pump sysytem. Unforunately it is also empty......this may be my problem. There are no signs of leaks at the pump or under the unit so if there is a leak it must be at one of the actuators.

Does anyone have experience with these and can tell me if I have made correct assumptions so far - if so, I am about to tell him it is dealer time.
