Emission Warranty

I own a '98 SLK 230 bought in Vancouver Canada. I am in California now. I've heard that there is an emission warranty, does anyone know how long is the warranty under Canadian federal law? I am looking for the one that covers parts up to I think 7-8 years, or some kilometer, which ever is less. Also, if a part is covered under this warranty, will I be able to get it fixed in California? Or do I need to drive back to Vancouver? If I can fix it in California, will I need to pay out of pocket first, then claim it with Mercedes Canada? Or can Mercedes Canada reimburse dealer directly.

>_<

RE: Emission Warranty

Is something wrong with the factory emission now?
Check if the engine is having California label.
If it does, you have to pass CA smog.
If it is "Federal model" than being in California it has to pass Federal smog (at CA smog station),
Any alternations to the vehicle emission system needs to be reversed. Make sure you fuel cap holds the pressure, since now they check them too.

I did went through CA smog check about 1.5 years ago. So they may be modified it to CA spec. If so, will I be covered under California's Emission Warranty? Even though I bought my car in Canada.

RE: Emission Warranty

The reason I ask for the emission warranty is that my check engine light came on. I am taking to a dealer this weekend but want to get as much information as I can before talking to them.

You know, that dealers in California charge minimum $120/HR don't you? I know god mechanic in Glendora, that works for $70.
If you are worry only about the smog, find the station, that will do pre-test, or will give you second test for free.
Since they made those roils checks, smog cost minimum $70 in Bay Area.

RE: Emission Warranty

Yeah. Mercedes dealerships charge entirely too much to work on their cars. Take Kajtek1 up on his mechanic to save yourself some money. I have never heard of an emissions warranty before...so I cannot help you there.
