Crushed Oil Filter

Last time I changed my oil, (Synthetic every 6000)I noticed that my filter looked crushed as if it had been sqeezed in the middle. Is this indicative of a problem with the car or my foot? Any ideas for a good high-flow filter?

RE: Crushed Oil Filter

MB OE filter?
I suspect not!

Did you push the filter fully home when you assembled it? The MB filter has a line on it to show when you are fully home.
Sometimes the filters are a VERY tight fit on the "barbeque" spike. If you didn't and it was a tight fit the tightening sequence can crush the element without you recognising what is happening within the filter housing..

Its little features like this that can often make it cost effective to buy OE. Most manufacturers use end sealing techniques in their oil filters. MB uses an internal diameter seal and control of this ID is therefore important.
The element type is also "special" on the OE filter to accomodate extended oil change periods (i.e. as advised by ASSYST).

Nothing to do with your foot

Stuart.

Not an OEM filter. I suspected that might be the problem.

Thanks for the info
