Changing the brake fluid on SLK 01 model
I was told by the dealer that the brake fluid needs to be changed every couple of years.... I never had to do that with any of my other vehicles. Anyone out there knows if this is really necessary?? Do you guys do it every 2 years?
Thanks for your help.

RE: Changing the brake fluid on SLK 01 model
Hi,
Brake fluid change is on the ADDITIONAL work sheet so your dealer is correct.
Brake fluid is hygroscopic (i.e. It absorbs water from the atmosphere) and this reduces its high temperature and corrosion resistance performance. Basically the absorbed water boils under heavy braking.
Now is it really necessary?
Yes and No!
To maintain original brake performance it is deemed that it is.
However in the real world maybe you would choose this to be advisor iyem..
Of couse if you live in Malaysia / Tropics and use the car for racing at the weekend that is somewhat different to living Arizona and only going to the shops at 30mph. You'll have to judge where NY is on this scale!
The advice is there. Change the fluid.
Whether you do or no tis your call.
This is not an MB thing, It true for all cars and has become increasingly important since disc brakes (run at higher temps) and intro ABS/EPS etc which can become damnaged due to internal corrosion etc. of the moving parts and therefore fail when you most need them.
I personally change the fluid in order to keep things in A1 condition.

Thanks for the advice Stuart, it does make sense to change it. When you change yours do you actually take it all out and bleed your braking system, or do you just empty the reservoir and fill it back up?
