From looking at this forum, I can tell I am not the only one with this problem. I have a 2001 SLK320 that I just got. The CD player has part# 203-820-90-89 on it. This is a former posting that describes exactly what mine is doing.

Here is how it behaves now:

If you re-load the 6-disc magazine, you can hear/watch something in the changer step from each CD to the next and then it reports "Magazine empty" on the LCD display in the head unit in the cabin. After that it will just show "Magazine empty," anytime you try to switch to the CD and it will simply stay on whatever other function was last used, as in the radio.

Hoping there might be an easy fix, but want to also hear what other alternatives there might be.

I am hoping someone can tell me this can be fixed instead of having to buy a new one.

Your changer needs some tact switches replaced which requires you to send it in to a qualified service center. There are not too many qualified guys around. Let e know if you are interested in getting it repaired. I just got mine done for my 93 500e.
