CAUTION: Ebay Hydraulic Top Replacement Kit by Martin Ewer

I recently came across an Ebay auction by Martin Ewer that specifically states that it provides all of the instructions AND parts to repair ALL 5 cylinders necessary to actuate the top and trunk lid.

Once you receive the kit, however, you're provided with 3 single O-rings and when you look in the instructions, section 13 explicitly states that the trunk lid actuaters actually rarely go bad and therefore no such parts or instructions will be provided. Indeed, there was one O-ring for each of the 3 top actuators, but nothing for the trunk lid in the way of parts of photo-descriptive instructions.

Rather than leave direct negative feedback, I left neutral feedback and explained the problem with the auction so that other buyers were made aware of the difference in what the auction claims versus what is actually received.

I was contacted by Martin Ewer, the seller of the auction item, who sent the following message:

"Thanks for leaving the neutral feedback without even contacting me to try to resolve your issue. I really appreciate that.

Good luck,
Martin Ewer"

The verbatim auction description is captioned as follows:

“This auction is for the PARTS and MANUAL to rebuild all 5 hydraulic cylinders.”

“Lucky for you, you’ve found the easy, affordable, and only permanent way to fix ALL FIVE of the problematic cylinders in your hydraulic system yourself.”

“REASON 4: This kit contains all the parts you need to rebuild ALL FIVE problematic hydraulic cylinders: the one above the headliner that locks the top to the windshield, the two in the front of the trunk that raise the top, and the seals in the two hydraulic cylinders on the sides of the trunk that raise the trunk lid.”

Mr Ewer was seeking opportunity to resolve the matter in private rather than by use of the feedback system designed by Ebay for just this purpose.

If you are seeking repair parts and instructions for your SLK top, then I advise that you either get Mr. Ewer to give you precisely what is advertised and fully inform you regarding what is included and what is not.
