Buying Used 1999 SLK Sport

I've come across an MB I would like to purchase. It has 65,000+ miles, second owner and it was Starmarked in 2000 when purchased by the current owner. Is this year a reliable model? Are there any things i should look out for before I purchase the SLK?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

One big one is the top mechanism - leaks and is the operation smooth and trouble free. I understand leaks are very common - I am fighting one right now.

If I may ask what is the asking price?

I think that for the money they are a great value. the running gear is hard to beat. engine is tough, handling is nothing short of pure fun. I love mine. I purchased used with 36,000 miles on her. In the 40,000 miles since, I've replaced the three top sensors/switches above the visors, an air flow sensor, a shifter to transmission linkage grommet, a secondary air injection/emissions valve. but the only real bitch I HAD about mine was some of the spray on water based vinyl covered pieces. that vinyl looking coating would come off without a lot of effort. after stripping those piece and re-dying them black and adding a dash kit, I really like the interior now. I've only put in maybe at the most 2k since I've had it. It's never left us stranded anywhere. I think they are wonderful cars. run a carfax before you buy and if you do buy it have the transmission fluid changed if the service records don't show it being done recently. then enjoy!

Just check the auto gearbox and K-40 relay...
Did they already flush the gearbox..?
Those are the ones which might faile at or around 65.000 miles...
Other potential problems are brake switch and wheel's speed sensors...

Great sports car

things to check out:
motor mounts (2)
Tranny mount
Top working flawless. Wiring harness is $3000 installed by dealer.
Radio. Aftermarket mounting kit alone is $350.
These are the real pain items, normal replacements should be expected especially for rubber items on a 1999.
