Default Alarm no audio

99 SLK 230, when panic button is pressed the lights activate like they should in alarm mode however no audible alarm, has brand new PSE so that should not be the problem, where do I look first. Also another question, I have a speaker mounter on the passenger side below the glove box, what is that for???

Alarm horn is mounted in plenum (air box) in space immediately in front o fthe windscreen.

Some ATA (Security) systems have the horn with a battery in it so IF disconnected the horn goes off although nohing ist connected to it!

ISA ATA is different to Euro ATA.

Speaker under glovebox?
Some after market phone kit I imagine. Not OE.

I guess the air box you are speaking of is were the horn is behind the grill, I looked everywhere else and did not see anything different anywhere else. Actually behind the grill are two small horns mounted, is it one of these?

Speaker behind kick panel is oe phone.
Horns behind grill are normal horns.
Alarm speaker is in plenum at rear of hood.

Hi Cheif17,

The plenum is the airbox below the grill at the the base of the windscreen.
Its where the air gets into the inside of the car.
The ATA security horn is bolted to the inside of the plenum with a bolt from the engine side of the firewall.(firewall separtes engine from plenumso you don't get smelly hot air into the car interior through the heater.

If you can't find it MAYBE it isn't there. i.e. somebody has removed it which might explain why it doesn't work!
