RE: ALARM DOESN'T COME ON

Hi Drew,

i did try what you said, I rolled down the window and closed the door, locked it and opened it again with the key only and the alarm didn't come on. I haven't yet checked the fuses as someone had advised.

Thanks,

Jasmine:)

Don't use the key. open the locked door from the inside while standing outside reacking into the open window. Imagine you car is locked and the windows are rolled up. then someone comes along and breaks the driver window. Now they reach in and open the locked door with the inside handle, get it? the alarm should sound. the same thing happens with the top down and the car locked. If someone tries to open the door with the inside handle, the alarm sounds. Hope that clears it up. Don't unlock anything before attempting to open the door.

HI BIKER,

Don't know why they did things differently for USA but suspect it is covered by legislation somewhere. So in the USA you are saying there isn't feedback thru the flashers or the flashing tow switch?. Correct?

What I can say from my experience with another european manufacturer is that the USA market was considered a SAFE market not requiring anything but a basic security system.
However auto theft specifically in the UK has a BAD reputation like no other country and increasingly complex ways of ensuring security are called for. In fact legislation drove the reguirement for immobilisers with all the problems thay have caused due to "fail to start" in the early days.

It is my view that we are only a small step away from the EMS having external control capability in order to stop the next big problem which is high speed pursuit car chases.

Stuart;

Please read this post thread: https://mercedesforum.com/m_61256/tm.htm

It describes the overlord issues you mentioned.

I just checked to be sure. My no tow switch DOES have a blinking light when the doors are locked and the key is out of the ignition. Maybe Jasmine's switch is dead, has now power, or the bulb(led?) is inoperative.

Hi BikerDrew,

You didn't confirm my understanding of no Flasher feedback when locking the car.

I'm not sure Jasmine confirmed that the Tow LED wasn't working. Maybe I missed it.
