2005 SLK - CD Changer Retrofit

Hi,

Just bought an 05 SLK200 with MB Audio 20. Would like to retrofit a CD Changer (as the Audio 20 Single slot doesn't support MP3, but the proper (single slot) CD changer unit, apparently does).

Has anyone done a retrofit on this model - if so, I could do with advice like:

Part numbers.
Accesing the Fibre Bus (from what I can glean on Web, the Phone module is also tied in??)
Complexity.
Version Coding.
Pictures - or a clue as to where harness connectors are located.

Any help gratefully received!

Thanks

Tony J.

Hi,

I found a like new 6 disc changer on ebay. There was something tricky about the fiber optic connection. I found a proper installation procedure somewhere on the web. Google that. Sorry, but I didn’t keep notes. The phone fiber optics female connector is in the same area, but does not go into the cd changer. It did not come with the mounting bracket. I didn’t want to pay for a new bracket. So, I strapped it in place and used a car wash sponge beneath to solve bump skip problem.

HTH,
Thom

Hi Tony,

Correction - fiber optic connector is male.

I bought on on ebay too. I would like to buy the mounting bracket. Anyone know where I can find one?

Or can you post a picture of how you mounted yours.

2001 SLK

Thanks

Hi Seurai,

I just pulled the farthest right side rear trunk panel off. I ran a strap through the vertical slots on the right side of the large opening and the access panel on the left, connected power and fiber optic connectors, replaced panel, snugged strap around CD changer, put car wash sponge beneath cd changer. The strap is like those found on backpacks. You squeeze the male prongs to release clip. After clipped, you can tighten by pulling one side of the strap. You can buy these at hiking/outdoors shops. The carwash sponge is about 10 x 3” like you find in an auto parts store.

The bracket is available from the dealer. You may need to buy mounting hardware too.

YMMV
