V8 Manual Shift

I heard rumor that the were Manual Transmissions behind V8 SLs in the mid 80's

I would be very interested in a 4, 5 or 6 speed conversion for my '84 500SL (Euro)

Were they available in Europe ? Australia ? How about Lenco ? other tranny makers ... anyone know of a conversion kit ?
