traction control

Hi
My first post here
My dad owns a 91 500sl and we have been wondering is it possible to switch off the traction control??
they havent made it obvious but is there a switch in engine compartment or can it be modified electroniclly?
has anyone done this
or is it impossible (i find hard to beleive)

cheers

The same question came up a couple of weeks ago. The answer is no, you can't turn it off on that year SL. Search for a recent post from A Dalton about ASR for more info.

Thx MB!!

Ok well i did a bit more research on the subject and see thats its virtually impossible but that it has been acheived in some rare circumstances. Problem being that car goes into limp mode when ASR is off as it is a small part of that main electronic managment systems which go to safe mode in event of any of the components not working.

I have read in several places of after market ASR defeat switches being sold.
Can anyone tell me where these can be purchased and will the car refrain from limping

discussion of asr and defeat switches

I was referring only to a factory switch, or lack thereof. I'm sure an aftermarket switch sold to the masses wouldn't put the ECU into limp mode. That would be pretty stupid, but you never know. If it does, they should tell you beforehand.
