SL 500 Tires & Fenders
I just bought a 2000 SL500 with the Sport package. If I hit a bump while turning, the tires hit the fender and bend the edge. I have checked the tire and wheel sizes and they are correct for the Sport package. Questions:
Is this a common problem?
Is there anything I can do about it except drive very carefully?

if they are the correct size as indicated on the drivers door jam then there is a suspension problem. or it has been modified with lowering springs or shocks or something is broken should not rub the fenders at all! should take to a benz dealer to have them look at it.
if it is the front you are having problems with. You might check to see if the bump stops on your struts are still good or even there. they are purchased separate from the struts and fit over the piston located just under the top mount inside the dust cover. they are about 6 inches long and keep the struts from bottoming out and give you a bit more clearance. I assume your 2000 129 is the same design as my 90
I have the same issue with my 92 500sl and am looking at replacing the front springs --- aftermarket about 75 dollars each plus labor. For right now I put two spring rubbers in each side and that took care of the problem. Next time in the shop I will have new springs installed.
