Default Okay don't laugh

After removing bird debris from my sl, I noticed the trunk required a little wax. To make a long story short while extracting the wax from the container, same exploded sending wax everywhere possible. Seems they do not make plastic bottles like they used to. Regardless, I now have a spotted convertible top--looks like a white spotted black panther. Any suggestions how to clean the wax out from the convertible top? I was able to remove some by dabbing it but the black top now looks pretty bad. Oh, I also tried to wait until it dried and gently brush it out but still having problems. When you stop laughing please send me your suggestions. Thank you.

You might want to contact a professional detailer or upholstery shop on that score. Good luck!

Yeah, let a pro screw it up. That way you'll have some recourse.

If you want to try a little spot, preferably an inconspicuous (is that a word?) one, you might consider this. I know a bunch of guys who are really **** about their car finishes. One thing they all do in common before they do their personal magic is strip the old wax and polish off first. They all use Dawn dishwashing liquid soap because, apparently, it's mild and it effectively strips wax and polish. Try it if you dare but rinse well. It may not work on your top, but hey, it won't hurt it. At worst it will leave a clean spot around the wax spot. They may start to look like eyeballs. Cool, no?

I also found a bottle of convertible top cleaner at PepBoys or AutoZone, etc. If you got the spots off, you'd probably have to clean the whole top to even out the clean and dirty spots.

Thank you. Contacted a detailer who waxed poetic about this and that. I found I printed out an old Mercedesforum.com email about using a mushroom brush and light soap. Tried a soft brush with no water, soft brush again with a little water, and then repeated once dried (some of the spots came back after first round). At present 90% gone and top is fine due to soft enough brush and just water. Thank you so much for your input.

Glad it is mostly worked out.

I wasn't laughing as much about the bottle exploding as I was about your nickname.

SBeemish, like Stanley Beemish? aka Super Chicken!!. That bottle didn't stand a chance!

Not laughing. I've done worse.

You're probably familariar with Griot's Garage, a company that makes a wider range of auto/garage maintenance products than you can imagine. (I look forward to their catalog just to find out what I never thought I needed.) I don't know if they have a hotline, but their website can be found at www.griotsgarage.com. You might want to pose your question to them.
