can some of the more experienced of you out there give me advice on the following.
(i currently have a 2003 sl500.)

1) is the purchase of a OBD code reader of sufficient value to a layman, to be worth the purchase.?
2) if so is there a particular reader that would be recommended for my machine?
3) is the data protocol on the mercedes unique to the model line (id be surprised if it wasnt)

i am reasonably familiar with a broad range of electronic measuring and testing equipment
from dc to light as fairly mechanicallyt adept....and simply have a personal interest in these devices, also i wonder if they might be good for the layman to avoid being ripped by
in the event the machine has an issue....thanks in advance for your input and advice.

 

thanks for your input, i suspected the CAN system would have some unique twist for
the mercedes.. ill take your advice...
