looking at a 450sl to buy for surprise 50 bday gift for husband. found one w/ body and engine in good condition - but interior needs completely restored. what is estimated cost to restore interior - and replacesoft top? Thanks for any help.

To restore the interior completely could cost anywhere from $1000-$4,000 depending really on what condition everything is in and what needs to be replaced. Softtop I have no idea. Would assume another grand, but don't quote me. Sounds like a great idea, I hope he likes it!

 

I think I have just finished my 79 450SL. In the interior I had carpets, mats, seats, wood,and chrome hinges for the seats replaced It ran me around $4500. I also had the top replaced for around $1300. It was well worth it. I found that it was easier on me and my bank account to have everything done at one time (you can ask if you would save money by having everything done at once). Have a good time and do not let yourself get carried away with replacing stuff (Trust it's easy, sort of like redecorating the house and before you know it you have redone the whole house!!!! )
