Default Mercedes Consumer Battery

Researched available batteries to replace my Varta P/N 570 901 076 3332, MB P/N A 230 541 00 01. Varta batteries are made by Johnson Controls and are widely available in Europe, but as far as I know, only thru MB dealers in the US. Quoted price from a local dealer was $203. The noted battery is top of the line, AGM sealed and vented called ULTRA dYNAMIC. The newer version of this battery P/N 570 901 076 B512 is called START STOP PLUS. I could find only one battery that matched the specs of the Varta and that was the Deka 9AGM48 battery mfg by East Penn Mfg. I could not find any store locally (Las Vegas) that carries the Deka although they have a plant in Ontario, CA. The Deka is available thru Remybattery.com for 75% of the Varta price, but when adding the shipping, it's not much of a bargain. Napaonline carries the Deka rebranded as the Legend P/N BAT 9848. However the price matches that of the Varta. So, the dealer price isn't that bad after all and I'm opting for the Varta OEM. One further note, O'Rielly, AutoZone and Advance Auto lists a Johnson Controls battery suitable for the SL500. Battery P/Ns are 48-720EJ, H6-DLC and 48H6, respectively. These batteries are sealed and vented, but do not match the AGM type originally installed. Bosch also makes a battery identical to the Varta, P/N S6-001, But doesn't appear available in the US.
