Looked at a 500 SL For Sale
 

There is a 1992 500 SL for sale 1 owner 56,000 He is asking $16,900 OBO Both Tops Artic White w/Black interior.

What does the Forum think? This is my first SL I have looked at & not sure what to look for. Any help will be appreciated.

I'm not objective when it comes to 129 sl. I think they're one of the most beautiful cars ever made. The proper maintenance has to be a labor of love. mine has not been without expense. In order for me to justify the cost, I have to look it as the preservation of a mechanical work of art and as a hobby. It has not been practical, but it does make me happy. check the mileage and other issues through Carfax. Unless you have deep pockets you will need to learn how to do a lot of the work yourself. I approach my car from the begining as something I was going to keep, I started with the engine and over time replaced every part ON the engine except the airflow sensor and kept all the old parts as backups. Mechanically, if maintained properly, I can see you getting 400,000 miles with that car. I did the same part replacements on many other systems. for instance, The top can be a big pain in the you know what, unless you have an extra controller. taking that part out of the fix equation first makes diagnostics easier. the long and short for me is they're worth it. You can get this 92 and not have problems, I have not been so lucky. The good news, $50,000 later I haven't had any serious problems on my sl for over 3 years. It's far better now that it was when I got it 70,000 miles ago. I can't get enough of driving her, I never loved a car more.
