just purchased '93 500SL
Its a sweet ride although it needs a lot of maintenance and repairs.
Since this is my first mercedes, I need some help with the dash buttons:
How do I turn off the AC?
How do I open the gas door?
How do I adjust the steering wheel?
Is there a way to disable/disconnect the passenger side airbag?
Thanks

With the exception of disabling the airbag (why?), all of what you're looking for is in the owners manual. If you don't have one, you can download a copy at www.benzworld.org .(Free registration may be required) In the Roadsters Forum, 129/SL, you'll see a postingwith a'Sticky', in the first few on the page containing the topic, 'Download Owners Manual'. Open this thread, follow the instructions....you'll be good to go.

I found and downloaded the owners manual. Thanks.
As far as the passenger side airbar: I would like to disconnect/disable it, so I can put in a rear-facing child car seat.
Airbags and car seats don't play well together.

Its the passengerfront airbag that I want to disconnect.
This model car doesnt have "side impact" airbags so,the risk ofbeing broadsided is still there, be it the driver's or passenger's side.
Is therea way I can get a seat belt added to the back?

"If a driver does get a switch, it should be used to turn off the airbag only when an
infant or child must ride in front. It should be noted that vehicles without rear seats
are permitted to have an on/off switch installed for the passenger airbag;
this includes some pickup trucks and some small cars."
anisrote,
Thx for explaining exactly which airbag you're wanting to disable. In the model years after yours, MB included a dash mounted button for just this purpose...disable the passernger side-front airbag. I have it in my '99, but don't know the specific model year when this 'feature' was added. The point being, if I owned your car and wanted to do what you indicate, my approach would be to get the wiring harness and on/off button and whatever other ancillary electronics it would take, to perform as if installed at the factory, i.e., a more modern setup.
This may run into some money as when MB adds a feature, like this airbag disable thing, it's often a tad more than get the harness, plug and play. You may want to check with these guys -http://www.oempartsdirect.com/, for oem discounted parts/components.
