Default Help needed on engine temp and oil pressure! L@@k..

Quick question. While driving my 92’ SL500 through Dubai last weekend. I noticed that the oil gauge was moving up and down, kind of following the acceleration of the car, i.e. if I revved higher the oil pressure went up, if I idled the gauge showed zero?
I also noticed that the water temperature was going into the red! Thankfully I pulled into my garage before going into the red and in fact the temp under the bonnet was really hot. The outside temperature was pushing 50’C so my poor little car was exhausted, literally.
Any ideas where I need to look. Also I noticed the air filter infeed pipes were split, but I don’t think drawing in hot air from under the bonnet would make the engine hot… would it?

Thanks for any advise.

GF

I had the same problem with the oil pressure, turned out to be the oil pressure sending unit. on my 300sl, it's located at the back of the engine just behind the oil filter housing and there's only one wire running to and it just screws in. The over heating may be the thermostat, possibly the impleller on your water pump may have become loose or the water temperature sensor. If it gets hot while setting and idling it is probably the fan clutch.
