Fuel Pump Relay
 

My 86 560sl was running fine and on a drive it sputtered a couple of times. When I started it up after sitting for a half-hour, it ran about 2 minutes and then just died. I got it towed home and narrowed the problem to fuel. The distributor is receiving fuel but it does not get pressure to the fuel lines that feed the injectors. I have replaced the idle control valve and the EHA valve, with no results. A Mercedes mechanic rep said it may be the distributor (that was replaced a few months ago with a used one, so I'm hoping not that!) or it may just be a faulty fuel pump relay. The problem is I have no idea where it is located...any ideas or help with this would be much appreciated...thanks!

Anyone that was wondering...I found it. On a 560SL 1986 it is located behind the glove box in a very hard to reach spot.https://mercedesforum.com/micons/m10.gif I'll keep you posted on the subject if a new one works. If it doesn't then I'll replace the fuel pressure regulator next...and if that doesn't work, I'll bite the bullet and replace the fuel distributorhttps://mercedesforum.com/micons/m13.gif!!!

Well...that didn't work https://mercedesforum.com/micons/m13.gif So farI have replaced the HEA valve...the idle control valve and now the fuel pump relay. The fuel will get all the way to the distributor but will not pass through it to the injectors. I know it sounds like a fuel distributor...but before I spend much dollars on that...does anyone have any ideas I might explore???

Did you check fuel pressure? How much pressure did you have? Also, make sure you don't have leaking injectors...that could cause stalling as well.
