Engine trouble on a 87' 560 SL
 

Anyone have experience with a 87' Mercedes 560SL Convertible?

I'm a regular on the other forums, but also have a 79' 280SLC myself, great car....PITA to smog though.

Trying to figure out whats going on with my friend's car. Works great, starts up great and drives like new.

But here's the problem.

Once in a while were driving around, and we'll park the car to buy stuff at a store. We come back to the car, and the engine will turn, but it won't kick over! We wait 30-45 minutes, and try to start the car again and it starts up just fine

We've replaced the fuel pump, fuel pump relay, distributor, spark plugs, and spark plug wires...and I dunno what else it could possibly be? It doesn't happen all the time, but it does happen and is annoying.

Any help would be great!

I've got an '87 560SL that gave off the same 'symptom', and in my case, I was losing pressure at the Accumulator, a little bellows like device that sits on the fuel line and is used to, among other things I suppose, maintain fuel line pressure when the engine/pump are turned off. They run about $70 and if you've done all the other work mentioned, this won't be a challenge to install.

Like with any tech advice, your friend's symptoms are exactly the same as mine were, but the 'problem', could easily be caused by anything in fuel distribution system from the tank to the engine. Good luck, post how you make out-
