Default buying a 1995 320sl Questions

I just looked at a 95 sl320, When I took it for a test ride the engine light was on and the radio had code flashing on. The owner said that he disconnected the battery and then the radio code came on, He said he needs to take in in to mercedes to have it reset. Does this sound right. I know the check engine light is probably a o2 , does antone know roughly how much this is to replace. Other than that the car looks real nice by the way it has 83,000 miles. I ran a carfax and it cjecks out. Anything else to look for. Thanks Jim

I think if the reset code isn't somewhere in the owners manuals you can get a couple of stereo removal keys. pull the stereo out enough to get the numbers off the unit and call them in to a dealer service or parts department, that's how I got mine. they can look them up easy. that is a great car. about the only issue might be in the wiring harness. Timing chain will need to be replaced at a 100K.

Agreed, they were still using biodegradable wiring until 1997. Check the rubber around all the wires going into the autobox have been changed too.

No real problems with with the 320 stright 6. Expect oil leaks at about 100k miles, but as long as its not major, not a problem.

More of a concern is the "check engine light" as you put it (sounds like your car was built for the Calafornia market), its either the fuel injection system or exaust. Get it checked asap!
