Arm rest lid - 2004 SL500 R230
 

The lock on my centre arm rest is broken and I managed to get a new lid from ebay, however, I cannot for the life of me see how to remove/replace the armrest lid!

If anyone has a technical guide or could offer some advice I'd be very grateful.

Thanks very much, I got the centre console out ok, actually, getting the armrest out was not so bad - but removing the lid was a WHOLE different matter. I spent ages trying to fathom out how to do it. It had a very long metal hinge which seemed impossible to get free of the armrest frame. in the end I worked out that you have to remove a plastic strut that braces the hinge apart, then there is enough play in it to bend it slightly so that it clears other obsticals. It's hard to explain, but if anyone else needs to replace their armrest lid, post here and I'll try to do a better job of describing it.

It look me only half an hour to put everything back - no left over screws (bonus!)

Ive had the same issue , i put my house keys in the centre console , arrived home only to find that i couldnt open the centre compartment, after wiggling and trying different combinations of the latches on the underside of the lid, i opened it by snapping the catch that holds both phone cradle and underside together, extremely gutted i drove down to my local dealers to find its going to cost £290 for replacement colour coded lid, no i have the snapped ( cheap plastic ) catch that broke and want to remove the lid so i can bond it together again , the link above doesnt work anymore so pls pls pls have you still got that PDF manual on removing the unit or tips on getting the beast off ...

Just bought my favorite 2004 SL500 and the console latch is broken. Can they be fixed?

I have a 199 500 SL with a broken front latch or release on the armrest center console, any luck finding part?m
